Case Review Assignment for BUSN 2370 – Legal Environment for Business

Learning Objectives:

• Discover the ability to research utilizing Artificial Intelligence – AI
• Encourage critical thinking, research skills, and the application of Case Reviews utilizing AI
• Learn and explore about AI Hallucinations
• Learn how to create, verify, and document AI results in preparing Case Reviews

There are three parts to Case Review Assignments (CR).   All three parts should be put on one Word or PDF document; Labeled Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.

Part 1.

Case Reviews are chosen from our text. Use only cases from the text under “Cases for Further Review” at the end of each Unit. Cases can be found on pages 71, 130, 192, 214, 289, 345 and 388; choose one that interests you. No need to let me know ahead of time. Use the Title of the Case as your Title page for the Case Review. Include your name and assignment (i.e. Case Review 1). *

Download the ChatGPT app or  use the ChatGPT link:  https://chat.openai.com/ .  You can also internet search “ChatGPT”.

Take your lawsuit title and enter it into ChatGPT with the instructions to create an 800-word summary, include law being disputed and outcome.

If the result does not include all three: 1. summary, 2. law(s) in question, 3. outcome(s), input questions like: now tell me about the law(s) being disputed, or what was the outcome of the case.     Copy result and paste to a Word Document or a PDF.   Include a citation page that shows ChatGPT as your reference.  

Part 2.

Now on the same document (labeled Part 2) take each paragraph from Part 1 and put it into an internet search engine (like Google) or one of the RSCC Library database resources. Research to find out if what AI generated is true or false. AI Technology is amazing but sometimes hallucinates. An “AI hallucination” is a response generated by AI which contains false or misleading information presented as fact. If the AI result is true, cite that paragraph with the website/reference that validates the paragraph as well as ChatGPT.  If the paragraph contains a hallucination (false or misleading information) correct it and cite that paragraph with the only website/reference (omit ChatGPT).  If it cannot be verified, eliminate it and simply write this section as you would without AI.  Cite only the internet source for that section not AI.   Again, if the paragraph was correct cite both AI and the internet source.  If it was incorrect, correct it and cite only the corrected source.

Be sure Part 2 document contains the same sections as part 1:

• Corrected case Summary
• Corrected overview of laws being disputed in the case
• Corrected overview of court decisions including appeals
• Complete citation

The result of Part 2 will be a document that is accurate and documented 800+ word Case Review with complete citation.    This will require a reference page.  

Part 3.

In your own words compare and contrast the final result with the original ChatGPT version.  Meaning what did you learn about AI’s ability in creating case reviews.   How different was the AI version from your final version.     This section should be a very detailed paragraph (200+ words).  

Label each section Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.
