Using AI to Improve Assignment Instructions, Rubrics, and Feedback

I used AI to review my existing assignment instructions and help identify areas where the directions were too vague or unclear for students. I provided ChatGPT with an existing assignment and asked it to explain what the assignment was about from a student’s perspective. I also tested whether the assignment was something AI could easily complete. Based on the results, I revised the assignment using clearer and more specific language.

I then used the same assignment to generate a rubric template and a generic feedback bank that could be adapted for individual student submissions.

This process helped me create more consistent feedback language and shifted my feedback toward helping students understand what they could improve, rather than focusing only on what they did incorrectly.
